The Yizkor service

The Yizkor service is one of the highlights of the liturgical year at Shelter Rock. Intended both to be solemn and uplifting, the service features a series of introductory readings, an opportunity for individuals to recite their own Yizkor prayers, and the cantor’s formal chanting of the El Malei Rachamim prayer for all of our departed. Additions include a special prayer for the victims of the Shoah and other Jewish martyrs, a prayer for the fallen soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, and a special prayer for American service women and men who have given their lives in the defense of our country. The service ends with a communal chanting of the Twenty-Third Psalm and the Mourner’s Kaddish.
