Early Childhood Center

August 2020

With great sadness and disappointment we announce that we will not be re-opening the ECC for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. In this Covid age of uncertainty we did not achieve enough enrollment in time to go forward with all the added safety precautions that are now necessary. With the unknown possibilities of the coming year we choose to err on the side of caution for our children, families, and staff.

The Shelter Rock ECC is more than a beautiful, well designed, colorful building. The light that shines through the atrium windows reflects the glow of all the children, families, and outstanding staff that have graced our school for 23 years. We have given countless youngsters their first introduction to an early childhood education filled with Jewish ideals and traditions. Our staff, some of whom have been with us since the beginning became more than teachers, they became vital parts of our ECC families. Thank you to Director Robyn Locke for her extraordinary efforts, and to our teachers who have always been the soul of the school that served the North Shore communities of Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, East Hills, Port Washington, Sands Point, Great Neck, Kings Point, Lake Success, New Hyde Park, Manhasset, Plandome, Oyster Bay, Brookville, Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Carle Place, Old Westbury, Albertson, Mineola, and Garden City.

In 1997 a group of forward thinking congregants, after years of hard work, transformed the idea of a nursery school into the unique building and school we have today. The project was spear-headed by Stanley Sanders zā€™l and Bob Kagan and a team of dozens of dedicated and talented members. We thank you all.

Thank you to Sandy Pensak, and the ECC Committee, our Board of Trustees, Rabbi Cohen, Hazzan Goller, Andy Canle and the custodial staff, and the office staff for all your help and support over the years.
